Yacht Charter Maldives 2026 — Luxury, Catamaran & Superyacht Charter Across The Atolls

I’ve been fortunate enough to sail the world’s most exclusive destinations, yet the Maldives always calls me back. There’s a moment, on your first morning, when you wake to the gentle lapping of turquoise water against the hull, draw back the curtains, and see nothing but an endless expanse of blue, punctuated by a string of pearl-white sandbanks. This isn’t like chartering anywhere else. It’s not about hopping between glamorous ports; it’s about disconnecting from the world and reconnecting with the ocean in its purest form. A superyacht here becomes your private floating island, the ultimate platform for discovery in a nation that is 99% water. From your sundeck, you command a view of a liquid-blue kingdom, your captain ready to navigate to the next secret snorkeling spot or a sunset anchorage that will redefine your concept of beauty. As a broker, crafting a Maldivian itinerary is less about logistics and more about choreographing a series of unforgettable moments: a private dinner on a deserted sandbank under a billion stars, a silent encounter with a majestic whale shark, the thrill of discovering a reef no one else will see that day. It is, quite simply, the pinnacle of private travel.

It is, quite simply, the pinnacle of private travel. Days unfold at the pace of the sea: long swims off the platform, lunch at a beach club where your concierge has held the best table, an afternoon cruise to a quieter anchorage, cocktails on the bow as the light softens. The captain rewrites tomorrow's plan based on tonight's weather and your party's mood.

We work with a small list of crewed yacht charter Maldives operators we know personally — captains we have cruised with, chefs whose tasting menus we have eaten, stewardesses who know your children's names by the end of day one. The result is a charter that feels less like a booking and more like a private invitation.

Cruising Grounds

Top cruising areas & highlights of Maldives.

A handful of signature experiences that define a charter on this coast.

01

North & South Malé Atolls

As the main entry point, these atolls offer unparalleled convenience and a high concentration of luxury resorts and established dive sites. They are perfect for shorter charters or as a starting/ending point. Highlights include top-tier resort dining, easy access from the airport, and classic dive spots like the Victory Wreck and Banana Reef. While more developed than other regions, they still hold countless quiet anchorages and beautiful sandbanks, offering a perfect introduction to the Maldives.

02

Ari Atoll (North & South)

The quintessential Maldivian charter destination. A vast atoll lying west of Malé, it offers the ultimate bluewater playground. South Ari is world-famous for year-round whale shark sightings along its outer reefs, providing a bucket-list wildlife encounter. North Ari is celebrated for its thrilling 'thila' and 'kandu' dives, along with numerous manta ray cleaning stations. The atoll is dotted with uninhabited islands, pristine sandbanks, and a mix of local villages and ultra-luxury resorts, ensuring endless variety.

03

Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

Globally renowned for its incredible biodiversity, Baa Atoll is a must-visit, especially between May and November. This is when Hanifaru Bay comes alive, attracting hundreds of manta rays and whale sharks in a spectacular feeding frenzy. Beyond this unique phenomenon, Baa offers exceptionally beautiful islands with lush vegetation, stunning beaches like Fulhadhoo, and some of the country's most exclusive and eco-conscious resorts. The UNESCO status ensures the reefs are pristine and the marine encounters are second to none.

04

Vaavu Atoll

A haven for serious divers and those seeking raw, natural beauty. Vaavu is home to Fotteyo Kandu, an epic channel dive revered for its dramatic topography and rich pelagic life. The atoll's other major drawcard is the unforgettable night snorkel at Alimatha Jetty, where dozens of docile nurse sharks and stingrays gather in the shallow, illuminated water. With a long, unbroken barrier reef on its eastern side—the longest in the Maldives—it offers a sense of wild, untamed ocean.

05

Lhaviyani Atoll

Known for its vibrant 'kandu' (channel) diving, Lhaviyani is an excellent choice for experienced divers looking for thrilling drift dives with sharks, eagles rays, and huge schools of fish. The atoll has a high density of marine life and is also home to the unique 5.8 Undersea Restaurant at Hurawalhi Resort, offering a spectacular dining experience. Its location north of Malé makes it a great addition to a 10-day or longer itinerary, combining fantastic diving with unique resort experiences.

06

Laamu Atoll

For those looking to get off the beaten track, Laamu in the southern part of the Maldives offers a glimpse of a less-developed paradise. The atolls here are lush and the reefs are exceptionally healthy due to lower traffic. It is also home to some of the nation’s best surf breaks, including the famous Yin Yang. A charter here feels like a true exploration, discovering untouched coral gardens and channels teeming with fish, offering deep tranquility away from the more popular central atolls.

## The Ultimate Guide to Chartering a Luxury Yacht in the Maldives The Maldives is a destination that seems purpose-built for the superyacht experience. A constellation of nearly 1,200 coral islands, grouped into 26 breathtaking atolls, scattered across the Indian Ocean like jewels on velvet. This is a realm where the water is the highway, and a private yacht is the only vehicle that grants you the freedom to explore its full, unadulterated splendor. Forget the confines of a single resort; a charter vessel is your passport to an ever-changing panorama of secluded lagoons, vibrant reefs, and uninhabited islands. ### Why a Yacht Charter is the Only Way to See the Maldives While the Maldives is famed for its luxurious overwater bungalows, a stationary holiday gives you only a pinhole view of this aquatic wonderland. A yacht charter, by contrast, offers boundless freedom and unparalleled privacy. * **Total Freedom:** Your captain and crew are at your service. Wake up and decide if you want to dive a world-class wreck, surf an empty break, or simply cruise to a different atoll. The itinerary is yours to create and change as the mood takes you. * **Unmatched Privacy:** Your yacht is your exclusive sanctuary. There are no other guests, no crowded beaches. Enjoy a dinner for two on a deserted sandbank, a private yoga session on the sundeck at dawn, or simply the silence of a remote anchorage. * **Access the Inaccessible:** Many of the most pristine dive sites, untouched reefs, and idyllic islands are only reachable by boat. Your yacht’s tender can whisk you away to snorkel in lagoons that resort guests will never see. * **The Best of Both Worlds:** A charter doesn’t mean forsaking the region’s legendary resorts. We can arrange for you to visit spectacular underwater restaurants, use world-class spa facilities, or enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of a glamorous beach club before retreating to the serenity of your own vessel. ### When to Go The Maldives is a year-round destination governed by two distinct monsoons. The key is to choose the season that best matches your desires. * **The Dry Season (Northeast Monsoon - December to April):** This is the peak season. Expect endless sunshine, calm seas, and exceptional water visibility. It’s the ideal time for classic cruising, sunbathing, and all-round water activities. Prices are at their highest, especially over Christmas, New Year, and Easter. * **The Wet Season (Southwest Monsoon - May to November):** This period sees a higher chance of rain (often in short, dramatic bursts), stronger winds, and choppier seas, particularly in open-water crossings. However, it’s far from a washout. This season is a well-kept secret for specific interests. For divers, this is when plankton-rich currents draw huge congregations of manta rays and whale sharks to specific sites, like Hanifaru Bay in the Baa Atoll. For surfers, this is when the best swells hit. Charter prices are significantly lower, offering excellent value. ### Who It Suits The Maldives’ unique appeal makes it perfect for a diverse range of charter guests. * **Honeymooners & Couples:** The privacy, romance, and sheer beauty make it the ultimate escape for two. * **Families:** Calm lagoons are a safe playground for children. The abundance of gentle water sports, fascinating marine life, and the novelty of living on a boat create unforgettable family memories. * **Divers & Snorkelers:** It’s a world-class underwater destination. From gentle coral gardens to thrilling channel dives with sharks, rays, and turtles, the Maldives is a diver’s paradise. A charter allows you to follow the best marine life spectacles across the atolls. * **Wellness Seekers:** The tranquility of the environment is deeply restorative. Combine this with an on-board yoga instructor, a private chef catering to a healthy menu, and spa treatments arranged at luxury resorts for a complete wellness journey. ### Weather and Sea Conditions Cruising in the Maldives is generally a tranquil affair. The atolls act as natural barriers, creating vast lagoons of calm, protected water. Open-ocean crossings between atolls can experience some swell, especially during the southwest monsoon, but these are typically short journeys. Water temperatures are consistently warm, hovering around 28-30°C (82-86°F) year-round. During the dry season (December-April), winds are lighter and seas are glassy, making for supremely comfortable cruising. The southwest monsoon (May-November) brings stronger winds, which can be a boon for sailors and surfers but may require more careful itinerary planning for comfort. ## Cruising Areas The Maldives is a vast cruising ground. Most charters focus on the central atolls for their accessibility and diversity, but longer charters can venture to the more remote and untouched northern or southern tips of the archipelago. ### North & South Malé Atolls Conveniently located around the Velana International Airport (MLE), these atolls are the gateway to the Maldives. They are home to some of the country’s most established dive sites, including wreck dives and thrilling channel crossings. Numerous luxury resorts offer opportunities for fine dining and spa visits. While busier than other areas, their convenience is undeniable for shorter charters. ### Ari Atoll Stretching to the west of Malé, the Ari Atoll is arguably the most famous and popular charter destination. It’s a large atoll split into north and south sections. The south is renowned for offering year-round encounters with whale sharks along its outer reef. The north is famous for its numerous *thilas* (underwater pinnacles) and manta ray cleaning stations. It offers the perfect mix of incredible diving, uninhabited islands, and luxury resorts. ### Baa Atoll To the north of Ari, Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a testament to its ecological significance. Its global fame comes from Hanifaru Bay, a marine protected area where, from May to November, hundreds of manta rays and a few whale sharks gather to feed on a massive concentration of plankton. It’s one of the most spectacular marine phenomena on the planet. Beyond Hanifaru, the atoll boasts beautiful islands and a handful of ultra-luxury resorts. ### Vaavu Atoll South of Malé, Vaavu is a diver's dream. It is home to Fotteyo Kandu, often cited as one of the best channel dives in the Maldives, featuring dramatic overhangs covered in soft corals. The atoll is also famous for its night snorkeling experience at Alimatha, where dozens of nurse sharks congregate in the shallows. ## Signature Experiences A Maldivian charter is a canvas for unique moments. * **Private Sandbank Dining:** Your crew sets up an elegant dining table, complete with a chef and waiter, on a deserted sliver of white sand, just for you. Dining under the stars, surrounded by the gentle lapping of the ocean, is the quintessential Maldives experience. * **Swimming with Gentle Giants:** Snorkeling or diving alongside the world’s largest fish, the whale shark, in South Ari Atoll, or being surrounded by a ballet of feeding manta rays in Hanifaru Bay are humbling, life-changing encounters. * **World-Class Diving and Snorkeling:** The clarity of the water and the sheer abundance of life are staggering. Each anchorage offers a new underwater world to explore, from vibrant coral gardens teeming with reef fish to dramatic drop-offs patrolled by sharks and eagles rays. * **Sunset Fishing:** Try your hand at traditional Maldivian hand-line fishing at sunset. Your chef will be delighted to prepare your catch—perhaps a snapper or jackfish—for dinner that evening. * **Surfing Empty Breaks:** With the help of a local surf guide who can join you on board, your yacht can access remote and uncrowded surf breaks, a privilege few surfers ever experience. ## On-Board Lifestyle Life on a charter yacht in the Maldives is one of effortless luxury and relaxation. Your day is shaped by your desires, not a schedule. Wake to a freshly prepared breakfast on the aft deck, followed by a morning of snorkeling or diving from your yacht’s private swim platform. The professional crew, from the captain to the stewardesses and chef, are dedicated to anticipating your every need. The sundeck is your private kingdom for sunbathing, reading in the shade, or enjoying cocktails from the jacuzzi as you watch the sunset. The array of water toys—from kayaks and paddleboards to seabobs and jet skis (where permitted)—provides endless entertainment in the calm, warm waters. ### Food & Wine Dining on board is a highlight of the charter. Your private chef will craft a bespoke menu based on your preferences, sourced before the charter begins. Expect a blend of sophisticated international cuisine and local Maldivian flavors. Freshly caught fish, particularly tuna, is a staple. Local dishes often feature coconut, mild curries (*riha*), and starches like rice and roshi (a flatbread). Provisioning in the Maldives is a logistical challenge due to its remote location. The majority of high-end ingredients, from prime cuts of meat to fine wines and specific spirits, are imported. This is why the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is typically slightly higher here. Rest assured, Blue Ocean Club works with the best local agents to ensure your yacht is stocked with everything you desire. ### Nightlife Nightlife in the Maldives is sophisticated and largely resort-based. Your yacht’s tender can deliver you to a chic sunset bar at a world-class resort like the W Maldives or Cheval Blanc for expertly crafted cocktails and a stylish ambiance. For something truly unique, visit Subsix at Niyama Private Islands, the world's first underwater nightclub. However, many guests find the best nightlife is on their own sundeck: a private party under a blanket of brilliant stars, with a soundtrack of your choosing and the ocean as your dancefloor. ### Culture The soul of the Maldives can be found on its inhabited local islands. A charter provides a unique opportunity for respectful cultural immersion. Visit a local island to see a quieter, more traditional way of life. Wander the sandy streets, admire the mosques (some crafted from coral stone), and perhaps buy some local handicrafts. Always dress modestly when visiting local islands—shoulders and knees should be covered. If you get the chance, a performance of *Bodu Beru* (big drum) is a powerful, hypnotic experience, showcasing the African roots of Maldivian rhythm. ## Practical Logistics ### Getting There Nearly all international visitors arrive at Velana International Airport (MLE), located on an island adjacent to the capital city, Malé. From here, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your yacht, which will typically be anchored in the nearby Hulhumale lagoon. For charters starting in more remote atolls, a stunning seaplane transfer is required. This is an experience in itself, offering breathtaking aerial views of the atoll formations. ### Customs & Cruising Permits All customs, immigration, and cruising permits are handled seamlessly by your yacht’s appointed agent, a process coordinated by Blue Ocean Club. It's a smooth and well-practiced procedure. Please note that the importation of alcohol into the Maldives is strictly forbidden for individuals. All alcoholic beverages must be provisioned onto the yacht by its licensed agent before your arrival. Similarly, pork products and religious iconography are restricted. ### Costs & VAT The charter fee for your yacht is subject to a 16% Goods and Services Tax (GST). As a non-EU destination, the Maldives does not have a standard VAT on the charter fee itself, but this local tax is a mandatory addition to the gross charter rate. All other costs, such as fuel, food, beverages, and any resort excursions, will be covered by your APA. ### How Blue Ocean Club Books Your Maldivian Charter Our process is built on expertise and personalization. Marinas & Ports

Real marinas & ports in Maldives.

Hulhumale Lagoon / Male Anchorage

This is not a marina in the traditional sense, but the primary and most important protected anchorage for superyachts in the Maldives. Located adjacent to the international airport and the capital, it's the logistical hub for embarkation, disembarkation, and provisioning. All operations are handled efficiently via tenders and shore-based agents.

CROSSROADS Maldives Marina

The first and only dedicated luxury yacht marina in the Maldives, just a 15-minute boat ride from Malé. It offers 30 berths for yachts up to 60m, complete with power, water, and services. It is part of an integrated resort complex including the Hard Rock Hotel and SAii Lagoon, giving access to restaurants, shops, and entertainment.

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa Marina

Located in the northern Haa Alifu Atoll, this resort boasts the first privately-owned marina in the north. It’s an excellent and secure base for yachts exploring the more remote northern atolls. It provides a safe haven and allows charter guests easy access to the resort’s extensive facilities.

JA Manafaru Maldives Marina

Also situated in the pristine Haa Alifu Atoll, the marina at JA Manafaru is a welcome sight for vessels cruising the far north of the archipelago. It offers a sheltered place to moor and allows charter guests to use the resort’s dining and recreational facilities, providing a touch of resort luxury amidst an exploratory itinerary.

Equator Village (Gan) Marina

In the far south, in Addu Atoll, this marina is a crucial stop for yachts crossing the equator. It’s located near Gan International Airport, making it a viable alternative start/end point for charters focusing on the southern hemisphere atolls of the Maldives. The facilities are functional and provide an important logistical base in this remote region.

Arrange for a private seaplane to pick you up from your yacht for a 20-30 minute scenic flight. The aerial perspective of the atolls, reefs, and lagoons is breathtaking and provides a true understanding of the nation’s unique geography. It's a photographer's dream and an unforgettable excursion.

Visiting a World-Class Overwater Spa

The Maldives is home to some of the world's best spas. We can book you a treatment at an iconic facility like the Joali Being wellness retreat or the overwater spa at Cheval Blanc, where you can enjoy massages while watching fish swim beneath you through a glass floor.

Private 'Manta-on-Call' Service

In Baa Atoll, work with your Captain and local guides to be 'on call'. When the manta rays aggregate in Hanifaru Bay, you will get the alert and your tender will be ready to take you straight to the heart of the action for a spectacular private encounter with hundreds of feeding rays.

Anchorages

Best anchorages & bays in Maldives.

The protected coves, sandbanks and lagoons your captain will plot into your week.

Olhahali Finolhu Sandbank

A picture-perfect, sweeping sandbank in the North Malé Atoll. It’s a classic first or last night anchorage, offering pristine white sand and a crystal-clear lagoon for swimming and watersports. Its proximity to the airport makes it convenient, yet it feels a world away. It’s the ideal spot for a private sandbank dinner setup.

Dhigurah Lagoon, South Ari Atoll

The long, beautiful island of Dhigurah is flanked by a vast, sandy lagoon that offers excellent, calm anchorage. Its key advantage is its location on the edge of the South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA), the primary feeding ground for whale sharks. Your yacht can anchor here while you search the outer reef for these gentle giants.

Fulhadhoo Island, Baa Atoll

This inhabited island in Baa Atoll is famed for having one of the most beautiful natural beaches in the Maldives. The anchorage is in a stunningly clear, turquoise lagoon. A sandbar stretches out from the tip of the island at low tide, creating an idyllic setting for a walk or a swim. It feels remote, tranquil, and utterly pristine.

Alimatha Island, Vaavu Atoll

The protected anchorage next to Alimatha resort island in Vaavu Atoll is famous for one reason: the nightly gathering of dozens of nurse sharks and stingrays. This makes it the essential base for the thrilling night snorkeling experience, easily one of the most memorable activities on any Maldivian charter itinerary.

Maniyafushi, North Malé Atoll

A stunning uninhabited island offering a beautifully protected anchorage. It has a classic Maldivian feel with a lovely beach and surrounding reef perfect for a gentle snorkel. Its location makes it a convenient overnight stop when transiting between Malé and the Ari or Baa Atolls, providing a peaceful and scenic resting point.

Bodufolhudhoo, North Ari Atoll

Anchoring in the lagoon of this small local island offers a great mix of experiences. The anchorage is secure, and the island has a strong environmental focus with its own eco-initiatives. The surrounding reefs are excellent for snorkeling, and a beautiful sandbank is located just a short tender ride away.

M/Y AZIMUTH 55

This 55-foot motor yacht is perfect for a couple or a small family. It is fast, stylish and nimble enough to explore shallow lagoons and secluded coves that larger yachts can't access. With a professional crew of three, you are guaranteed an intimate and personalized service. It’s the ideal choice for a 7-day charter focused on island hopping and exploring the central atolls.

S/Y THEIA

A modern 90-foot sailing catamaran offering exceptional stability, space, and a shallow draft. This makes her perfect for families and for getting extremely close to the Maldives' famous sandbanks and beaches. Her wide beam provides expansive deck space for sunbathing and dining, along with a huge array of water toys for endless fun in the calm lagoons.

M/Y KALIZMA

A classic 50m motor yacht with a rich history. A charter on KALIZMA is a step back in time to the golden age of yachting, but with all modern amenities. Her size, professional crew, and range make her ideal for longer, more exploratory itineraries to remote atolls. She offers a unique blend of elegance, comfort, and adventure.

DHONI STELLA I

This vessel offers an authentic Maldivian experience. A modernised version of the traditional 'dhoni', it combines classic lines with contemporary luxury interiors. It's perfect for a couple on a romantic getaway, offering a unique cultural connection. A separate diving dhoni often accompanies, fully equipped for underwater exploration, leaving the main vessel as a serene haven of relaxation.

Local Insider Tips

Insider knowledge for your Maldives charter.

  • Always use reef-safe sunscreen. The equatorial sun is intense, and protecting the fragile coral ecosystems from harmful chemicals is paramount.
  • When visiting local, inhabited islands, dress modestly out of respect for Muslim culture. This means covering shoulders and knees for both men and women.
  • Alcohol is strictly prohibited on local islands and cannot be brought into the country. Enjoy drinks on your yacht or at licensed resorts only.
  • The US Dollar is the preferred foreign currency for most transactions, especially for tips and at resorts. It's wise to have some small USD bills.
  • Seaplane transfers have a strict luggage allowance, typically 20kg checked and 5kg carry-on. Pack light and use soft-sided luggage for easy storage on the yacht.
  • Drones are permitted but heavily restricted around airports, seaplane landing zones, and resorts. Always ask for permission before flying to respect others' privacy.
  • While the sea inside the atolls is calm, crossings between atolls can sometimes be choppy. If you're prone to sea sickness, have medication on hand just in case.
  • Let your crew know if you enjoy fishing. Trolling a line off the back of the yacht while cruising between anchorages is easy and can result in a delicious, fresh-caught dinner.
  • The best souvenirs are often found on local islands, not just resort boutiques. Look for small wood carvings or woven 'thundu kunaa' mats.
  • Communicate all your preferences to your broker in advance – from your favourite wine to your pillow preference. The more we know, the better we can tailor your experience in this remote location.
Team Pick

A personal recommendation from Priya.

Hidden anchorage
Olhahali Finolhu Sandbank
My hidden gem in Maldives is Olhahali Finolhu Sandbank — drop the anchor mid-morning before the day-boats arrive and you'll have it almost to yourself. Late June and early September are my personal favourite weeks — warm water, lighter traffic, and the crews are at their sharpest. Always use reef-safe sunscreen. The equatorial sun is intense, and protecting the fragile coral ecosystems from harmful chemicals is paramount.
