About the yacht

About SILOLONA

Description as supplied.

The Silolona is a truly modern classic sailing vessel which was built to the demandingly high standards of German Lloyds register of shipping. No expense has been spared to ensure that discerning travellers accustomed to understated elegance and exquisite cuisine, discover and admire the majestic scenery, underwater wonders and fascinating artistic expression found along the fabled spice routes of South East Asia.

The Silolona sails in Indonesia from April to November every year, before re-positioning up to the West Coast of Malaysia Thailand and Myanmar, from December to March. By deciding when you want to sail with Silolona, you will have the choice to have a quiet beach and dive trip in the Andaman Sea and in Komodo National Park or one of the most memorable cultural trips you can dream of, by visiting the tribes of Irian Jaya (Papua), attending the Asmat Auction for their art, visiting the remote and rich Spice Islands and discovering the trade posts and beautiful islands visited during the height of the Spice Trade. For beach and sailing, cultural trips or astonishing diving in Komodo National Park or Raja Ampat, Indonesia’s Eastern Islands are yours to discover. Onboard a traditional teak 2-masted sailing ship, Silolona, you will explore the little known yet fascinatingly diverse, island cultures east of Bali. From Komodo dragons, "ikat" textiles, volcanic crater lakes to war dances, we will explore, in-depth, the ancient cultures rimming the Savu Sea. Each dawn will reveal a new island landscape and a different culture, perhaps a gently smoldering volcano, the craggy peaks of Komodo or a sleepy native harbor bustling with traditional fishing craft and local inter- island schooners.

Silolona includes five spacious cabin suites, a teak lounge and dining area surrounded by large windows, on deck dining area, and well equipped dive area. . Most of the islands are blessed with deserted white sand beaches, transparent turquoise waters, and stunning coral reefs waiting to be explored. Each day we will have the opportunity to snorkel, swim, fish, dive, or simply stroll a deserted stretch of beach.

Cruising Thailand: when to go and where to anchor

Best time

The main cruising season runs from November to April during the northeast monsoon, bringing dry weather, calm seas, and light to moderate winds of 10 to 15 knots. December and January are peak charter months with the highest visitor numbers. The southwest monsoon from May to October brings frequent rain and stronger swells on the west coast, though sheltered areas in Phang Nga Bay remain accessible.

Practical tips

  • Phuket (HKT) serves as the primary gateway, with Phuket's marinas (Yacht Haven, Ao Po Grand, Royal Phuket) located about 15–40 minutes from the airport.
  • National park fees are payable in cash to rangers upon entering designated marine areas, including Phang Nga Bay and Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi.
  • Dress modestly when going ashore in fishing communities or visiting temples; ensure shoulders and knees are covered, and remove footwear before entering buildings.

Anchorages to know

  • Loh Samah Bay, Koh Phi Phi Leh
Vessels use park mooring buoys here, providing tender access and a short walk across the island to Maya Bay, where boat entry is strictly prohibited.
  • Koh Hong, Phang Nga Bay
A sheltered limestone lagoon accessible by tender or kayak at mid-tide through a narrow cliff opening, offering a secure daytime anchorage.
  • Ao Chalong, Phuket
Phuket's principal southern anchorage and clearance port, offering good holding in mud and comprehensive shoreside marine support services.
  • Koh Racha Yai
An island south of Phuket with clear water, coral reefs, and sandy bays that provide sheltered overnight anchorage during the northeast monsoon.
