Who UBUNTU suits

UBUNTU is an inviting sailing catamaran from Privilege Yard, measuring 12.2 m and designed for intimate getaways. Accommodating 4 guests across 2 cabins, she is ideally tailored for a small family or friends seeking a relaxed pace on the water, looked after by a dedicated crew of 2. Life aboard revolves around simple pleasures, whether stepping directly into the water from the swim platform, relaxing indoors with air conditioning after sunny afternoons on deck, or enjoying music through the indoor audio system and iPod dock.

When assessed against similar yachts in the Bahamas, she presents an accessible choice. Her length is similar to other options in the destination, and she accommodates the same number of guests. Although her 1989 build year makes her older than alternatives in the region, her weekly rate is lower, making her an appealing prospect for travellers who appreciate unpretentious cruising.

The best time to step aboard UBUNTU depends on your preferred destination across the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Her winter 2026 calendar covers both the Caribbean and the Bahamas, making months such as January, February, March, and April ideal for sailing. Looking ahead, her summer 2027 season remains shared between the Bahamas and the Caribbean, with months such as June, July, and August well suited for sunny itineraries.

Cruising the Bahamas: when to go and where to anchor

Best time

The primary charter season runs from mid-December through April, marked by prevailing easterly trade winds of 10 to 20 knots and dry conditions. Occasional winter cold fronts bring stronger northwesterly winds. May is warm and calm. The Atlantic hurricane season officially spans 1 June to 30 November, bringing higher humidity, increased rainfall, and lower charter traffic, though summer conditions can offer settled seas outside of tropical systems.

Practical tips

  • Fly into Nassau (NAS) or Exuma (GGT); Nassau's marinas are 20–30 minutes from Lynden Pindling International, while regional and private flights access Out Island airstrips.
  • Cruising permits are required upon entry, and fishing or shelling is strictly prohibited within the boundaries of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park.
  • Provision thoroughly in Nassau before departing for the Out Islands, where grocery selections are limited and dependent on weekly freight deliveries.

Anchorages to know

  • Shroud Cay
Located within the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, this uninhabited mangrove island offers tidal creeks navigable by tender and sheltered anchorage on its western side.
  • Staniel Cay
A central Exuma hub providing protected mooring options, direct access to Thunderball Grotto, and close proximity to Big Major Cay.
  • Warderick Wells Cay
The headquarters of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park features a protected mooring field within a natural deep-water channel and marked hiking trails.
  • Highbourne Cay
Situated at the northern gateway to the Exumas, it provides sheltered anchorage on its leeward side and an established marina for fuel and water.
