Yacht charter in the Philippines

Cruising the Philippines by crewed yacht centres primarily on Palawan and the Visayas, offering island chains surrounded by coral reefs, limestone cliffs and remote anchorages. Distances between archipelagos can be significant, making it well suited to charters focused on diving, snorkelling and off-grid exploration rather than marina-based travel. Shore-side yachting infrastructure is limited, so vessels operate largely self-sufficiently, anchoring in sheltered bays and natural harbours.

Best time to charter

The primary cruising season runs from November to April during the northeast monsoon (Amihan), bringing drier weather and moderate trade winds. Peak charter months are December to February, when temperatures are cooler and seas generally settled. March to May brings warmer conditions and calm waters before the southwest monsoon (Habagat) arrives from June to October, bringing heavier rainfall, increased humidity and periodic tropical storms, during which most cruising ceases.

Anchorages and harbours to know

Bacuit Bay

Bacuit Bay provides sheltered anchorages surrounded by karst cliffs, though vessels must navigate carefully around shallow reefs and observe protected-area mooring regulations.

Coron Bay

Coron Bay offers deep-water anchorages close to historic Japanese shipwrecks and protected limestone lagoons accessible by tender.

Malcapuya Island

Lying south of Busuanga, this island has sandy seabeds suitable for daytime anchoring and clear waters over surrounding reefs.

Linapacan Strait

The islands between Coron and El Nido provide isolated, clear-water anchorages with good holding in sand for self-sufficient vessels.

Port Barton

A quiet bay on Palawan's western coast providing reliable shelter from northeast winds and access to offshore sandbars and marine reserves.

Practical tips

  • Getting there: Manila (MNL), then El Nido (ENI), Busuanga for Coron (USU) or Puerto Princesa (PPS). Palawan charters usually start in El Nido or Coron, reached by domestic flight from Manila.
  • Fly to Manila (MNL) and connect domestically to El Nido (ENI), Busuanga (USU) or Puerto Princesa (PPS); Palawan charters usually start in El Nido or Coron.
  • Strict environmental fees and local permits apply throughout Bacuit Bay and Coron Island; ensure your skipper arranges required clearances and eco-tourism tickets beforehand.
  • Major supermarkets are restricted to regional hubs; yachts must complete primary provisioning prior to departure from Manila or Puerto Princesa, relying locally only on small markets.
  • Dress modestly when visiting rural coastal communities, and seek permission from local leaders before entering designated indigenous ancestral waters or protected lakes.
