Yacht charter in the Turks Caicos

Cruising the Turks and Caicos on a crewed yacht offers access to low-lying coral archipelagos, shallow sandbanks, and deep-water drop-offs. Navigation centres on the Caicos Bank, where shallow drafts allow exploration of uninhabited cays, barrier reefs, and calm mangrove channels. The area suits sailors, divers, and charterers seeking water sports, secluded anchorages, and coastal wildlife rather than busy nightlife or extensive marina infrastructure.

Best time to charter

The primary charter season runs from December to April, characterised by prevailing easterly trade winds averaging 15 to 20 knots, low rainfall, and daytime temperatures around 27°C. Christmas and spring break are peak periods. May brings lighter winds and fewer yachts. The hurricane season extends from June to November, with higher humidity and increased storm risk, though June and July often provide calm sea conditions between weather systems.

Anchorages and harbours to know

Sapodilla Bay

A sheltered anchorage on the south coast of Providenciales providing calm, shallow water and good holding in soft sand.

Pine Cay

Located along the northern barrier reef, this cay offers quiet holding on sand flats suitable for shallow-draft vessels in prevailing easterlies.

West Caicos

Anchoring off the western coast provides reliable protection from easterly winds alongside direct access to deep wall dive sites.

French Cay

A low-lying bird sanctuary on the southern rim of the Caicos Bank offering an isolated anchorage in settled weather.

South Caicos

Cockburn Harbour provides a naturally protected basin with access to the deeper waters of the Columbus Passage.

Practical tips

  • Getting there: Providenciales (PLS). The marinas on Providenciales are about 10–20 minutes from the airport.
  • Fly into Providenciales (PLS). The marinas on Providenciales are about 10–20 minutes from the airport.
  • Anchoring is strictly prohibited in Grace Bay within the Princess Alexandra National Park; vessels must use designated moorings or anchor outside the protected boundaries.
  • Provision thoroughly in Providenciales before departure, as outer cays and southern settlements offer very limited supplies and few marine facilities.
  • Navigation across the Caicos Bank requires shallow draft and good overhead light, as shifting sandbanks and coral heads are widespread.
