They are passionate about the experience they deliver, cultivating a feeling of adventure and joy, that is sure to last far beyond your time in their care. Dick Stuart, Captain: Captain Dick Stuart, a mechanical engineer by training, enjoyed a successful career in construction sales management. He started his sailing career at the early age of 10 in an El Toro on Lafayette Reservoir in Northern California. Growing up, much of his time was spent sailing on San Francisco Bay and extensively bareboat chartering throughout the Caribbean. Captain Dick, in preparation for what he thought was a “retirement dream plan” continued to hone his sailing skills over the years. He holds a 100 TON MASTERS WITH SAILING ENDORSEMENT, an FCC Marine Radio Operators Certification and a Dive Master Certification. Captain Dick has an excellent reputation as “the troubleshooting ninja”, and uses his knowledge of mechanical systems to anticipate all the “what ifs.” Safety is Captain Dick’s priority for his guests, but FUN is his second! An adventure seeker and water lover, he moved to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico in 2017 and loves sailing the beautiful aquamarine waters and island hopping. Captain Dick welcomes all guests with his famous Captain’s Cocktails nightly! He is an avid Cribbage player and will challenge the best!

A former ER and Critical Care RN, Kim’s love for sailing began in 2012, the first time she set foot on a catamaran in the BVI. She has been “hooked” ever since! After completed sailing classes in Colorado and California, Kim captained several catamarans in Mexico and the Caribbean. She delights in creating the ultimate self-care venue for guests and sharing the magical experience of sailing the beautiful Caribbean waters! An avid traveler, Kim has a great sense of adventure. Her adventures have taken her bungee jumping in New Zealand, skiing in the Alps, fly fishing in Montana and Utah, volunteering as a nurse in Ethiopia and Uganda, hiking in Patagonia and Class V white water rafting in Colorado. A fitness & yoga instructor for over 30 years, she lives an active lifestyle in whatever location she may be. Kim exudes a tranquility to the guests that is based on her lifelong practice of yoga & meditation, allowing everyone the opportunity to absorb the soothing nature of the sea. Come along as she paddleboards to the shore for a yoga on the beach session! An accomplished business owner, speaker and author, she understands the ultimate importance of customer service and has a keen eye for personal detail. Kim is extremely passionate about food and hospitality, ensuring every delicious meal is prepared according to guest preference. DEEP BLUE, a Leopard 58 catamaran, was designed from the ground up to be an open water yacht that places comfort and ‘wow factor’ at the top of the list, and most importantly be the ultimate stage for high end maritime vacations. The obvious standout, is the simply epic flybridge, from which you have this jaw dropping stage to appreciate your surroundings, both whilst sailing and at anchor.
Aboard DEEP BLUE what really strikes you is how luxurious this yacht is, from the flybridge that became our breezy home, for food, drinks, relaxing, laughter and enjoying the unparalleled view. The recurring comments are always that they felt like they were on a much more expensive mega-yacht. Also that this was better in every way, than staying at a 5 star resort. This was reinforced with cabins that opened up onto their private deck level cockpit, and comfortably sitting 10 adults and 3 children around a table for dinner, on the lower aft deck.
Going back to the flybridge (because its irresistible), here you can command all aspects for sailing this yacht from the central helm. Visibility forward and side to side is great, and all lines lead back to helm through a neatly arranged bank of rope clutches and then onto the powered winches. Push a button, and you’re sailing, solo if needed, with a self-tacking jib. Here on the flybridge there is a wet bar, fridge and full sized BBQ, hence there being little need to leave this oasis. The aft end of the flybridge is open plan, and can fit three sun loungers in comfort. These can be cleared away, and you have space for yoga or in our case dancing.
Heading down the eight-step stairwell you come out into the aft cockpit, which has space for the large dinning table. Aft of this is the ingenious hydraulic swim platform, which lowers the tender into water, and can be set an any height. This means without the tender you can leave this semi-submerged, which works surprisingly well as a wet lounge, in calm waters. Or semi-raised as an easy to board aft dock, for people and supplies. When it’s time to set sail, you simply raise your tender out of the water, and you’re safe to make passage.
Heading inside, the salon is on the starboard side, where you have a very large seating area, with an expandable table. Here you can enjoy fine dining within the comforts of the fully air-conditioned yacht, or at the end of night, watch movies on the large flat-screen TV. On the port side is the generous galley, which is much larger than most yachts of this size, and provides plenty of preparation space in a fully wrap around configuration. The full sized standing fridge freezer is something all large yachts should have..

Cruising the Leeward Islands: when to go and where to anchor

Best time

The primary charter season runs from December to April, marked by reliable north-easterly trade winds of 15 to 25 knots and minimal rainfall. Peak demand occurs during the festive period and regatta weeks. May brings lighter breezes and fewer yachts, while the official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, during which charter operations are significantly reduced.

Practical tips

Fly into St Maarten (SXM) or Antigua (ANU); Simpson Bay marinas are 5–15 minutes from SXM, while English Harbour and Falmouth are 30–40 minutes from ANU.
Cruising between island nations requires clearing customs and immigration at designated ports of entry, with passports and ship documents presented by the yacht captain.
Provisioning is most extensive on St Maarten and Antigua, which have large supermarkets near key marinas, whereas smaller outlying islands have more restricted inventory.
