What a week aboard MARGUERITE costs all-in
Our planning estimate, built on the listed weekly rate shown in the rate section. APA, tax and gratuity are typical figures; your charter contract sets the final amounts.
- Charter fee per guest per night
- €5,357
- Weekly rate ÷ 12 guests ÷ 7 nights, before APA, tax and gratuity.
- Nearest airports · British Columbia
- Vancouver (YVR) and Victoria (YYJ)
- Vancouver's marinas are about 20–30 minutes from Vancouver airport; floatplanes connect to the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound.
- Typical extras
- APA 30% (typical for motor yachts), gratuity 15%.
- Canadian sales taxes depend on the charter and are not included.
| Charter fee (listed rate) | €450,000 |
| Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) (30%) | €135,000 |
| Crew gratuity (customary) (15%) | €67,500 |
| Estimated all-in week | ≈ €652,500 |
The APA is an advance for fuel, food, drinks, berths and similar running costs; unspent APA is returned. Some yachts are offered on all-inclusive terms, in which case the APA line does not apply. Delivery fees, if any, are extra. How charter costs work.
Cruising British Columbia: when to go and where to anchor
Best time
The primary charter season runs from May to September. July and August bring the warmest temperatures, lighter winds, and the highest yacht traffic in popular sounds. May and June are quieter with cooler conditions and occasional rainfall. September offers settled weather, fewer visiting vessels, and active marine wildlife. Afternoon thermal breezes regularly develop across the straits during midsummer.
Practical tips
- Fly into Vancouver (YVR) or Victoria (YYJ); Vancouver's marinas are about 20–30 minutes from Vancouver airport, while floatplanes connect to the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound.
- Tidal rapids such as Malibu Rapids and Dodd Narrows must be transited strictly at slack water; consult local tide and current tables carefully.
- Stern-tying to shore rings or trees is standard practice in narrow, deep bays to conserve space and prevent swinging into steep rock walls.
Anchorages to know
- Prideaux HavenA sheltered anchorage in Desolation Sound surrounded by granite bluffs, known for warm summer water temperatures suitable for swimming.
- Princess Louisa InletA deep fjord reached via Malibu Rapids, enclosed by high cliff faces with Chatterbox Falls at its head.
- Ganges HarbourA well-protected harbour on Salt Spring Island providing secure holding and shore access for local provisioning and walking trails.
- Teakerne ArmA deep inlet on West Redonda Island featuring a freshwater lake and waterfall emptying directly into the salt water.
