Who SOMMER suits

SOMMER is ideally tailored for families or small groups of friends seeking an intimate sailing holiday. Accommodating 6 guests across 3 cabins, this 15.2 m Leopard sailing catamaran is attentively run by a crew of 2. Life aboard revolves around relaxed outdoor living, where guests can take to the water with the kayaks and paddleboards, rinse off under the outdoor shower, or unwind on the swim platform after an afternoon in the sea.

When measured against comparable options available throughout the Leeward Islands, she aligns very naturally with her peers. Her length is similar to typical yachts in the area, and she accommodates the same number of guests. Furthermore, having entered service in 2022, her build year is similar to alternatives in her peer group, while her weekly rate is also similar across the board.

The best time to cruise aboard SOMMER in the Caribbean depends on the sort of getaway you prefer. She remains in the Leeward Islands for winter 2026, when months such as January, February, March, and April bring reliable trade winds and balmy conditions. She also charts a course in the Leeward Islands during summer 2027, making May, June, and July equally rewarding periods for peaceful sailing.

Cruising the Leeward Islands: when to go and where to anchor

Best time

The primary charter season runs from December to April, marked by reliable north-easterly trade winds of 15 to 25 knots and minimal rainfall. Peak demand occurs during the festive period and regatta weeks. May brings lighter breezes and fewer yachts, while the official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, during which charter operations are significantly reduced.

Practical tips

  • Fly into St Maarten (SXM) or Antigua (ANU); Simpson Bay marinas are 5–15 minutes from SXM, while English Harbour and Falmouth are 30–40 minutes from ANU.
  • Cruising between island nations requires clearing customs and immigration at designated ports of entry, with passports and ship documents presented by the yacht captain.
  • Provisioning is most extensive on St Maarten and Antigua, which have large supermarkets near key marinas, whereas smaller outlying islands have more restricted inventory.

Anchorages to know

  • Anse de Colombier, St Barts
A sheltered, uninhabited bay within the nature reserve featuring mooring buoys, clear water, and walking tracks to the headland.
  • English Harbour, Antigua
A deeply indented, historic harbour offering landlocked shelter, designated anchorages, and direct access to restored naval facilities.
  • Green Island, Antigua
An uninhabited island protected by an outer barrier reef, providing calm waters for tender use and water sports.
  • Simpson Bay, St Maarten
A broad roadstead anchorage and sheltered lagoon entrance providing well-protected holding and quick access to coastal services.
