For the principal considering a charter, and the broker tasked with executing it, this distinction is the single most important variable. Success here is not measured by LOA, but by draft. It is a destination that rewards planning and penalizes assumptions, offering an unparalleled experience of raw, private beauty in return. This is an operational brief, a broker’s-eye-view of executing a flawless Exumas charter.

The archipelago is a 130-mile-long string of 365 cays, mostly uninhabited, set in water of impossible clarity. The appeal is its elemental nature: sand, sun, and water. A charter here is about disconnecting from the shore-based world and leveraging the yacht as a self-sufficient private island. It is less about marina-hopping and fine dining and more about anchorages, tenders, and what the chef can create with provisions flown in from Miami.

Itinerary Architecture: Beyond the Milk Run

A standard seven-day itinerary can be executed with precision, but the real art is in knowing the nuances of each stop. Most charters originate in Nassau, leveraging its private air terminals (LPIA’s Odyssey and Jet Nassau are the standards) and deep-water marinas.

• Day 7: Return or Departure. A long run back to Nassau for departure from LPIA, or a short hop to the Staniel Cay airstrip for a more efficient exit.

Fleet & Draft: The Critical Variable

This cannot be overstated: draft determines your Exumas experience. The most beautiful anchorages and cays are protected by shallow banks and coral heads.

• The Sweet Spot (35-50m / 115-165ft): Motor yachts in this range, particularly with a draft under 2.5 meters (8 feet), are the ideal platform. They combine volume, comfort, and crucially, access.
