Charter recommendations

Best base marinas

Monaco Port Hercules (event premium); Antibes IYCA / Port Vauban (60m+ home of the brokerage fleet); Cannes Vieux Port (event berthing); Saint-Tropez Vieux Port (40m max, premium); Golfe-Juan and Cap d'Ail for overflow.

Recommended yacht size

40–60m motor yacht is the Riviera baseline. 30m for couples and shoulder season; 70m+ for corporate hospitality during event weeks.

Itinerary template (7 nights)

Monaco → Villefranche-sur-Mer → Antibes (Cap d'Antibes anchorage) → Cannes (Île Sainte-Marguerite) → Saint-Tropez (Pampelonne) → Port-Cros → Porquerolles → back via Antibes.

Avoid

Pampelonne anchorage during August Mistral — exposed and uncomfortable. Move to Cala di Volpe (Sardinia) or Bonifacio for those days.

Pair with

Corsica and Sardinia 1-day extensions east; Italian Riviera (Portofino) 1-day east; Balearics 2-day extension west.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best month to charter on the French Riviera?
Late June and early September deliver the best balance — warm weather, settled seas, and full programming. May and late September are event-driven peaks.
Which French Riviera events require the earliest booking?
Monaco GP (12–18 months ahead) and Cannes Lions (9–12 months) are the most front-loaded. Monaco Yacht Show, Cannes Film Festival, and Cannes Yachting Festival require 6–12 month lead.
Where should I berth my yacht on the Riviera?
For event weeks: the specific event marina (Port Hercules for Monaco GP, Cannes Vieux Port for Cannes events). For cruising: Antibes IYCA is the central operational base.
Can I do Monaco GP and Cannes Lions on one charter?
Yes — the events are 3 weeks apart (late May, mid-June), so a 4-week charter covers both with Saint-Tropez or Italian Riviera cruising in between.
